The photograph above was taken by Burney resident Alison Wallace from the roof of her house on Carberry Street when the engines come in for early morning briefing at Burney High School. The picture was taken on Sunday morning, Aug. 9. The inmate crew camp is in the background.

The photograph above and the nine below were taken by John Rodman from the Soldier Mountain Fire Lookout. Photo above shows the Cassel and Sugarloaf fires in the background on Wednesday, Aug. 5. Below shows the start of the Gomez Fire on Sunday, Aug. 2, 3.5 miles southeast of the lookout.

Rodman notes about the next two photos below, "A little later you can see it spread east and notice the smoke starting up to the right towards Lake Britton. It dies out later but needs watching."


Below, it's "bigger yet and now you can see the 1-33 or Cassel Fire in the background."

Below, "you see the Brown Fire in the upper right, the 1-34 fire east of Hat 2 near Sam Wolfin Spring to the left, then further left are the Cassel and the Gomez fires."

The two fires you see below are just west of Highway 89 and a little north of Cayton Valley, which you can just glimpse through the tree at lower left.
